Ten years of classics in Puerto Portals

The German driver is proclaimed speed champion after leading the race on all three days in his 1974 Porsche 911 Iroc RSR.

Puerto Portals hosts the 17th edition of the Classic Rally, an event that has been held in the marina for ten consecutive years, generating a close relationship between the two organisations. Fans of both sectors, sailing and motoring, can enjoy this symbiosis in the unique setting of one of the most outstanding ports in the Mediterranean.

With this event, which was held on 11, 12 and 13 March, Puerto Portals is once again kicking off its annual programme of activities. A calendar of social and sporting events that in recent years has positioned Puerto Portals as one of the island’s most active and social nautical centres.

The German driver Florian Feustel with his co-driver Christina Ettel, have demonstrated the mastery at the controls of his 1974 Porsche 911 Iroc RSR, managing to perfection the advantage they obtained on the first day of the competition and making great times in each section of the rally, thus rising in his second participation, with the victory in the Classic Rally Isla de Mallorca.

Among the most prominent participants in these motoring gems are an electric car of the brand Loryc Electric Batteryrunner, a Mallorcan brand created in 1920 that disappeared in 1923. A few years ago, German engineer Charly Bosch took over the company with the aim of creating a more sustainable mobility on the island by manufacturing aluminium electric vehicles with more than 1,000 rivets, a 200km autonomous battery and 20hp, which makes them more than 100km/h powerful.

The Jaguar XKE and E-Type models are another of the jewels that will be roaring their engines during the days of the event; two models from the sixties that belong to Mallorcan families who love the world of automobiles.

It is worth mentioning two classic racing cars, a Bentley ‘Old Number One’ from 1948 and a Bentley ‘3/8 Racer’ from 1947, two cars that are priceless right now and that have been restored 100% original by two German enthusiasts, one of them resident in Mallorca, who enjoy them in unique events such as the classic rally that takes place in Mallorca.

In view of the current pandemic situation, the event organisers have reinforced all safety and hygiene measures in order to be able to hold the rally. Both the riders and all the organisation’s staff have been tested to rule out any possible positives. Security has also been reinforced with different measures such as a pre-registration system for fans and visitors, capacity control, delimited spaces and distancing measures.

Next year Puerto Portals will host the 18th edition of the Classic Rally, in which more than a hundred cars of different nationalities are expected to take part, once again fighting for the podium.
