Blue Marina

WHO WE ARE

BLUE MARINA is a movement driven by Puerto Portals to transform the relationship between people and the natural environment, promoting a model that is more responsible and committed to the environment.

In a context that is marked by climate change, the loss of biodiversity and the pollution of seas and oceans, there is a need to take action. As a company with close ties to the sea, we take our responsibility seriously and work alongside specialist organisations to reduce our impact and bring about real improvements.

BLUE MARINA nace con el objetivo de ser un motor de cambio en el sector, inspirando a personas y organizaciones a sumarse y contribuir a un futuro más sostenible para las próximas generaciones.

Methodology

3 pillars for the transition towards a more sustainable model

In a change that happens from the inside out.

Cultural

For the change to be real, it must be driven from within. That is why this, one of the fundamental pillars of this movement is culture and the people who make it possible.

The Blue Marina Internal Working Group is made up of representatives from all departments at Puerto Portals (gardening, maintenance, cleaning, customer service, marine operations, sales and communications). In each area, opportunities for improvement are analyzed and specific measures are implemented to incorporate more sustainable practices that are respectful of the environment.

Another key player is the commercial area, with more than 100 businesses. We work with each company to understand and improve their sustainability policies, as well as to inform them about recycling protocols and progress toward a more sustainable marina.

Technical

This pillar focuses on three objectives: optimizing water management, moving toward an efficient, digital and smart marina, and improving waste management.

In recent years, electricity consumption has been reduced through the installation of solar panels and the replacement of lighting with LED technology. Drinking water use has also been reduced thanks to two desalination plants, a storm water tank and drip irrigation systems.

Puerto Portals is the first marina in the Balearic Islands to implement the FLOVAC system, which minimizes the impact of wastewater. It also features robotic anchorless buoys for more efficient and environmentally friendly regatta management, and micro-reefs (LBU) developed together with Ocean Ecostructures, which foster biodiversity and improve water quality.

To reduce CO2 emissions, charging points for electric vehicles, an electric buggy for users and electric scooters for staff have been added.

Social

Impulsamos acciones que involucran a la comunidad Blue Marina, consciente de la importancia de los océanos para el equilibrio del planeta y el bienestar humano.

Throughout the year we organize four events: Blue Marina Forum, Blue Marina Day, Blue Marina Clean Up and Blue Marina Subaquatic, with the aim of bringing people closer to the sea and generating a positive impact.

In addition, the Blue Marina Education program acts as an educational driver. At the Sailing School, staff, clients and students are trained in this philosophy, complemented by workshops together with marine conservation organizations to raise awareness about caring for the environment and the collective positive impact.

CULTURAL

Actions and BM! Impact

Digitisation strategies, technical improvements and energy savings in favour of the conservation of the marine environment and education in values.

Blue Marina develops all kinds of  initiatives  to reduce the impact on the environment and to echo the need to preserve and protect the marine ecosystems that surround us. Through the Blue Marina Education programme within the Puerto Portals Sailing School, every year people become part of the change through our summer camps and events for all ages.

Collaboration plays a key role in these actions and our programme involves leading marine conservation organisations.
You too can be part of the change.
