Rocknrolla and Louise Racing rule the III Puerto Portals Dragon Winter Series

Dominance of the Russian and British teams after the first of the three race rounds, which gathers 40 ships from 13 countries in the Bay of Palma. The competition will restart on January 17th 2020.

The ship Rockanrolla, crewed by Dmitry Samokhin, Kasper Harsberg and Andrdey Kirilyuk, holds the leadership of the III Puerto Portals Dragon Class Winter Series, after today’s fourth and fifth tests of this competition, organized by the Club of Regattas Puerto Portals. The Russian team, with a partial score of 4+2+1+4+2, is at the moment the steadiest one out of an impressive fleet composed of 40 ships from 13 countries.

The British Louise Racing, owned by Grant Gordon, today managed to discard yesterday’s black flag and places itself in second position only at two-point’s distance from the leader, thanks to its good performance in the rest of the rounds: two first places, one fourth and one fifth. The Danish Out Of Bounce, from the ship owner Jens Christensen (8+11+7+3+7), completes the temporary podium at a considerable distance from its predecessors.

The III Puerto Portals Winter Series will restart between January 17 and 19 and the last round will take place from February 14 to 16.

The Bay of Palma has offered today wonderful weather conditions for sailing. The SW wind came in early, enabling the first race to start with 10 knots at 11.05am. These conditions have kept quite stable throughout the day and the Committee managed to fulfill both planned rounds, the first of four sections and the second of five. Before the last test of the day, there was a general call to order, as nearly all competitors were beyond the starting line.

Rockanrolla and Louise Racing have navigated leading the fleet on both races, and they have proved to be the two ships with the greater possibilities of winning the III Puerto Portals Winter Series, which in only three years time has become one of the European references in Dragon Class races. Both have stood out among the other favourites. The leader is 16 points ahead of the third, the same distance between the latter and the tenth classified.

At the moment, the best Spanish boat is Latinia, skippered by Guillermo Altadill, which sails on the sixteenth position. The boat Capa, owned by Carlos Carbajal, is eighteenth and Mr. Nova, owned by Jorge Forteza, is twenty-first.

In 2020, the Dragon calendar at Puerto Portals includes the IV Mediterranean Cup (March 20-22) and Puerto Portals Dragon European Championship (April 20-26) This last regatta will be the most important date of the Dragon Class in the last decade in Spain, after the recent contest (last November) of Puerto Portals Dragon Grand Prix, which gathered in Majorca the best continental Dragon Class teams.
