“Goldkante” triumphs in the second Dragon Winter Series race at Puerto Portals

The second Dragon Winter Series race at Puerto Portals came to an end with the triumph of the German yacht Goldkante, skippered by Tanja Jacobsohn, winning the first place once again during yesterday’s round, and continuing at a good speed today, ending the race with 39 points. In second position with an 11 point-distance from the winner, we find MeerBlick, skippered by Otto Pohlmann. The boat Rosie, skippered by Benjamin Morgen, finished the round in third place with 72 points.

Two races took place today, the first one was 50 minutes long with 10-12 knot northeast winds, where the German Khaleesi finished first, followed by the Russian Annapurna and the Swedish Pilsner.

In the second race starting around 14pm the British boat Bear was victorious, the Russian boat To Be Continued won the second position followed by the Swedish 5 i12.

The weekend has been marked by favourable meteorological conditions, with 8-15 knot easterly winds. The race has been surrounded by a lively atmosphere and the participants have been very pleased with the conditions of this second edition of the Dragon Winter Series, where more than thirty German, Italian, American and Portuguese boats, amongst others, participated. Also, the local representation stands out, nearly half of the crews are Majorcan.

The Dragon Winter Series will be resumed next December 14th, 15th and 16th and will be completed in January during the weekend of 18th to 20th, with the award ceremony to the best classified as well as to the categories Best Classic y Best Corinthian.

The Dragon is a sailing boat designed by Johan Anker in 1929. It was considered an Olympic Class from 1948 to 1972. The class counts approximately with 1,500 active boats spread within more than 26 countries, with Germany leading the way with the largest number of boats. These type of ships have a length of 29.5 ft with a beam of 6.5 ft and an estimated weight of 3747.8 lb.
