The Sunset Market

The most cutting-edge market of this summer takes place every Wednesday and Thursday throughout August at Puerto Portals.

Twilight falls on Puerto Portals, the sun is bright in the sky and ships rest at the docks swaying to the rhythm of the sea breeze. The boulevard comes to life, a murmur can be heard, the music starts, kids with painted faces play... The Sunset Market begins, a fresh summery market with a surfer and vintage touch that takes place on Wednesdays and Thursdays during the month of August from 18pm to midnight.

Music holds a very special place in this market, every Thursday during August at 21.30pm local bands like La Kunfusión (flamenco), Selma Montana & The Show Runner (reggae, hip hop & swing), Christa Elmer & Band Idos (soul, funk & rock’n’roll), Los Fabulosos Globetrotters (blues & swing) and Marino e Marini (Italian swing) will play live. At the newly opened Chill Out area DJ Vinilo Records’ session can be enjoyed every Wednesday at 21pm.

Besides acoustic art, the Expo Zone gives us the chance to discover visual art thanks to our guest artists who will exhibit their art works while they paint live, so the visitor may enjoy the different creative techniques offered each week by the invited artist on the spot.

For the littlest ones there are options like the enjoyable face painting zone, the Sunset Kids zone with workshops, the innovative carousel ‘Lila jocs reciclats’ built with recycled objects and propelled on pedals, and the deliciously sweet candy truck. The ‘Candívora’ is a caravan where visitors can witness the traditional production process of sweets made with natural and organic products.

Moreover, every Wednesday the visitors have the chance to learn swing dancing at the Sunset Market’s masterclass, directed by teachers of the Tandem Club and Galactic dance schools. On Thursdays, the market’s exhibitors will offer workshops on diverse topics, such as The Van Bar where one can learn how to create summery avant-garde cocktails.

The association Mallorca Sense Fam and the Foundation Shambala will also be present in the event raising funds for their projects.
