Around the world from home

#stayathome

Travelling is a delight, exploring the world, acquainting new horizons, cultures, getting lost in the alleys of a new city... We can still make these plans from home, adapting to the new circumstances that the world imposes due to COVID-19, and until the quarantine is over, we bring you some ideas to continue exploring the planet thanks to Google Maps:

Get to know one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Venice. Google Maps welcomes us to ‘the city built over water’ and invites us to travel along its canals, tour its streets, get on gondolas, cross bridges and plan your own adventure. Visit the monumental Piazza San Marco and sit down on the lounges of the emblematic Caffè Florian, one of the most antique coffee shops in Europe and imagine it being wrapped in the scent of Italian coffee.

Explore the Galapagos islands. The renowned browser offers us the chance of visiting these remote volcanic islands and be immersed in the universe of Charles Darwin through its collections, that contributed to the development of the Theory of Evolution by natural selection. Google also invites us to participate in a modern mapping expedition, ‘for the first time, scientists and researchers use the Street View images to study the land, the coast and the sea of the Galapagos Islands’, they note. Get surrounded 360º in the fauna and flora of this exotic place.

Visit the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, located in Dubai. Can you imagine going up to its 80th stage? Certainly so, Google enables you to do it and to enjoy the view of one of the most admired architectural constructions of the world, that counts with more than 160 floors and the trifling amount of 2909 steps, as well as counting with the highest restaurant of the world, you can eat at 1450 ft above sea level! We invite you to discover its inside and learn about its curiosities, it won’t leave you unmoved.

Have you thought of ascending to the Everest’s base camp? It wasn’t in our plans, but this is how it’s worked out and here we are: on the sofa at home visiting the mountain located between China and Nepal. Also, this journey enables you to admire, not only the views from the base camp, but also the whole climb; ascending its 17598 ft was never easier!

You can also traverse by foot one of the natural wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon (US), experience the route and admire the views from the Bright Angel trail. It is located in the Grand Canyon National Park, one of the first natural parks in the United States, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979. It is said that one must visit it at least once in a lifetime, so this is the perfect time to start preparing your experience.
