Christmas bids farewell at the Christmas Market Puerto Portals

Around 36000 people have experienced the magic of Christmas in the ninth edition of Majorca’s most emblematic market

Christmas says goodbye at the Christmas Market Puerto Portals. The ninth edition of the market has been an absolute success, as it was greeted by more than 36000 people who were wrapped in its magical atmosphere; it is inspired in the Christmas markets of Central Europe, with their typical smell of waffles and warm wine, surrounded by wooden stalls offering hundreds of surprising and original products.

After twenty days, the Christmas Market has turned its lights off, having collected many stories and moments. More than forty exhibitors have delighted the visitors with their enthusiasm and delicacies. The attendees have also been able to enjoy its carefully selected foods, the costume jewellery, clothing, accessories, decorative items or toys, among many other products.

Like every year, Puerto Portals enhances the different areas of the Arts, such as music, which always holds a very special place in the market. The yearly date with Cap Pela was very moving for the Majorcan public; The Turners sang and danced to the rhythm of Tina Turner; Clau de Sol played their soul and reggae songs; while Glen Trío, Christa Elmer & Band Idos and Marino e Marini did their part with funk and swing rhythms. The artists Julia Eme and Nico got everyone singing with their acoustic covers, and the show by Beatnik, from Chandra Maestre, put an end to the musical shows.

Ma Antonia Mas’ dance school, Punta Portals Dance Academy and Ángela Bruno Dance Factory performed their amazing dancing abilities, more than two hundred kids participated in the coreographies that touched the public’s hearts.
Cinema and theatre have played a mayor role in Puerto Portals’ Christmas. The week of December 23rd gave a start to the Petit Cinema, a series of children’s short films where kids enjoyed the funniest short films by Disney and Pixar. On December 30th, the week dedicated to theatre started, which gathered many families around the stage. The companies Disset and Conte Contat have presented their plays Martín y el Siurell, Una orquesta de planetas, Huellas and Fiesta de Navidad.

The skating rink has been again the preferred kid’s spot, together with the exposition Modern City of Playmobil, formed by more than 1000 pieces that recreate a city in full detail. Children have played and learned at the different workshops and the broad activity program, they even met Santa Claus and The Three Kings.

Like every year, Puerto Portals has granted a charity stall during the twenty days that the event takes place. Rotary International could be found at the stall during the first days of the Christmas Market. The NGO Majorca Sense Fam was present in the charity stall during the second half of the event. Thanks to the sales of their products, they have managed to raise 8000 euros to help the families in most need of Majorca.
