Up until today, this has been one of this edition’s best kept secrets. The Basque designer Modesto Lomba will go down the catwalk on this year’s #mallorcadesignday. It will take place on May 24th in Puerto Portals. The couturier has prepared a collection which is specially conceived for Majorca, including his best 2019 looks: from casual proposals to the ultimate evening wear and party designs. This will be the first fashion show of the brand Devota & Lomba in Spain this 2019.
When talking about Devota & Lomba, one is alluding to architecture becoming fashion, to smooth, clean lines, perfection in the cut, innovative patterns and sophisticated minimalism. The history of this brand starts back in 1986 when Modesto Lomba, trained in the tailoring profession, gets together with the architect Luis Devota (deceased in 1993) to create this brand which has presented collections in cities like Paris, San Francisco, Moscow, Belgrade, Zagreb and Mexico.
The fashion contest #mallorcadesignday arises with the aim of strengthening and creating visibility towards the work of new Balearic, national and international designers. This catwalk is the only one in Spain that awards prizes to curvy clothing designers. The jury of this edition will be presided by Modesto Lomba, current President of the Spanish Fashion Designers Association (ACME); the jury also counts with the presence of highly prestigious professionals in the world of fashion, like ACME’s Executive Manager, Pepa Bueno, the creative director Angel Schlesser, Daniel Rabaneda and designers Moisés Nieto and María Lafuente, amongst others. #mallorcadesignday also incorporates this year the street style photo contest. The best novice Balearic photographer capturing the best street style look is wanted.
