Sa Calobra and Formentor, core stages at Majorca’s XV Classic Rally

• The former Formula 1 pilot and Automotive Professional, Dani Clos, along with the journalist and test driver, Beatriz González Eguiraun, will run the race as ambassadors of this edition.

This morning the new edition of Majorca’s Classic Rally has been presented in Puerto Portals, the event will take place in Majorca on March 7th, 8th and 9th. Toni Dezcallar, Rally organizer, Javier Miñana, partner of Almira Capital, and Álvaro Irala, Director of Puerto Portals; along with Eva Serra, Sports Deputy Mayor of Calviá’s City Council and Rafael Abraham, Vice president of the Spanish Motor Sport Federation, have participated in the event.

This year, the rally will count with the presence of two special ambassadors to commemorate its fifteenth anniversary: Dani Clos and Beatriz González Eguiraun. The former Formula 1 pilot and Automotive Professional together with the journalist and test driver, will be in charge of giving green light to the classic sport cars in Puerto Portals, as well as being part of the race by riding with the pilots across Majorca’s roads and broadcasting this unique experience.

During the press conference, Toni Dezcallar emphasized that: ‘in the last year we have worked really hard to surprise you in this XV Rally’s edition: new stage openings, international renowned pilots and the creation of complementary activities that won’t leave any motor sports fan untouched. This year we want to reinforce ourselves as national and international points of reference, and to achieve it, we have worked with the best team possible to make it happen, amongst them, Almira Capital as new main sponsor, has supported us in order to bring the best of the world of Rally to Majorca, and we hope that they are here to stay’.

Kris Rosenberger, champion of Austria and Georg Berlandy, champion of Germany, will be part of the hundreds of pilots that will roam Majorca’s routes to obtain the first place on the competition’s podium. The pilot Michael Stoschek, owner of the company Brose, will participate with the jewel of the race, the New Stratos 2008, a vehicle that only competes at Majorca’s Classical Rally and which is currently being produced very limitedly: a total of 25 exclusive units.

The participants will be divided into two categories, regularity and speed. This year, the Carbonel brothers, Spain’s runners-up in regularity, will come face to face with the title holders, the Belgians Philip Vlieghe and Filpp Deplancke.

Regarding the stages covered by the participants, on the 7th they will start with the stage Calvià-Coll Des Tords and finish the day with an exclusive Show Stage at the Majorca Fashion Outlet where motor car lovers will enjoy seeing amazing top range vehicles. On the following day, some of the stages to cover are Capdellá-Galilea, Coll Des Tords-Coll de Sa Creu and the legendary road of Sa Calobra, closed exclusively for Majorca’s Classic Rally. Lastly, on March 9th, the stages will be Estellencs-Andratx, Andratx-Capdellà and Formentor, one of the most impressive stages of the island, open once again this year.

Toni Dezcallar expressed his gratitude with Almira Capital, main sponsor of the Rally and private equity firm specialized, amongst other areas, in investments for the automobile industry; with its support, it has been possible to implement great innovations in the rally, and to continue with its tradition of presenting celebrities of the world of motor sports to achieve ‘improvement year after year’.

Likewise, Álvaro Irala, Director of Puerto Portals noted that this rally is one of the most important events organized in the port, as it attracts motor sport fans as well as nautical lovers. He also stressed the fact that Puerto Portals will become during these three days, as location sponsor, a local meeting point that will enable thousands of passionate fans from the island and around Europe, to see directly the most exclusive cars, racing along the most fascinating roads in a perfect encounter of sportiness, leisure and glamour.

The first edition of this test took place in 2005, where 45 cars competed; since then, up to the present day, thousands of kilometres within the island of Majorca have been toured. In this meeting, genuine art works of motor sport have participated, such as Porsche 910, Ferrari Dayton, Bentley LeMans, Mercedes Gullwings, and many other revered models. This year, motor sport lovers will be able to see classic vehicles and top range ones like, Porsche 993 C2 COUPE, SEAT 124 SPORT, Jaguar E - TYPE V12, Mercedes- Benz 450 SLC 5.0 Audi Quattro, Cobra Hawkridge Le Mans, VW Karmann Ghia, Lancia HF Integrale EVO2, Lancia Delta Works Car, amongst others, touring the island’s most impressive landscapes.
